Riverside retreat in rural Alentejo

Pego do Linho is a 7ha, secluded, off-grid retreat in the stunning Alentejo countryside. With a river on three sides, it's a nature lover & birdwatcher's paradise, the ideal place to relax & explore. The house is totally private, has its own entrance, sunny verandah & panoramic views. Conveniently located on the road between Lisbon (2hrs) & Faro (1hr15) and close to Ourique (12 mins) for supermarket, cafes & restaurants.

The open-plan guest house has complete privacy with its own entrance and verandah, a well equipped kitchen with a washing machine and a bathroom with both shower and bath. The large living area is kept warm in the winter by a portable gas fire and in the summer, the gentle breezes keep the interior cool. From the verandah you have panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The kitchen is fully equipped with fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, coffee makers, microwave, washing machine stove and oven as well as a water filter (you do not need to buy plastic bottles of water). Please note we have five friendly dogs. Internet is provided by starlink. Lots of extra such as coolboxes, beach chairs etc.

We are just south of Ourique down a very quiet, rural road. It is a great base for exploring the west coast, the Alentejo interior and the Algarve which is only 45 minutes drive. Supermarkets and banks are only 12 minutes drive and there are three restaurants at the end of the road. The land consists of natural areas surrounded by a river where you can swim, walk, picnic or just sit quietly. All the seasons are different - in spring time enjoy the meadows and river banks full of amazing wildflowers, in summer, the hot days and in winter the bright blue skies and crisp mornings. Olive groves, a fruit orchard and fields full of aromatic plants provide a haven for many bird species. At night time the sky fills with brilliant stars and you are free to borrow our telescope to view them more closely. In the river you will see fish, freshwater turtles and evidence of otters (or maybe, if you are very lucky, you will see an otter) and mongooses. At night time we are also visited by foxes, hares, genets and wild boar. We have recorded 60 species of birds on our property.

We try to live a low impact life, growing our own fruit and vegetables and avoiding waste. We are completely off grid but have ample power and water for your visit. There are many great ways to relax and enjoy nature here.

Between €60 and €80 per night depending on season, two night minimum. Discounts available for longer stays.
