Beautiful Alentejo House in Wineland

In the beautiful Vila de Frades village, at the heart of Vidigueira County, a renowned wine region, a true traditional Alentejo house with soul!

This house is unique as it maintains all of the characteristics of the original house with chalk paint beautiful walls, wood ceilings and ancient "baldosas" on the floor. The large walls are a natural temperature regulator and keep the house fresh during summer and warmer during winter. The house accommodates 4 people, has two bedrooms with double beds, one big bathroom with washing machine, kitchen, living room and a study and is fully equipped for staying, with sheets and towels. It also has a private secluded backyard with porch. During winter it's possible to use the fireplace and there are heaters all over. There's a fast WiFi at the house and a TV screen where you can connect you PC to see movies or enjoy all the DVD movies available at the house (DVD player also).

The village is a in a charming location with several restaurants and Adegas to enjoy the amazing local cuisine and award winning wines. Vila de Frades is the the capital of "vinho da talha", an ancient method of wine production developed by the "Romans" that arrived in the region 2,000 years ago. You can also explore the ancient Roman archaeological ruins of São Cucufate, and two fascinating museums or stroll around in beautiful countryside. Nearby, you can visit 20 different private wine makers and taste the Alentejo wonderful gastronomy or cool off at the Vidigueira Pool (1.5 km from the house). Also near the house you can horse ride or go for nature walks and for a lazy day by the water you can go to Albergaria dos Fusos River Beach (18 min. by car) where you can find everything that you need!

For a day trip, you can head to Beja (24 km) and discover the historic old town ou go for a swin at Albergaria dos Fusos Fluvial Beach (18 min by car) where there's all you need for a day at the beach. At Amieira Marina (34 Km from the house) you can book a boat trip and then visit the medieval village os Monsaraz! In Portel (14Km from the house) you can visit the castle and museums, and Evora (Unesco World Heritage) is 68 Km and worths a extended visit! The Atlantic west coast with countless beautiful beaches is about 1h15 away, easy to go in the morning for a day by the sea, dinner at one of the friendly restaurants and then coming home to the breeze at the end of the day!

The old Alentejo houses were built in adobe and taipa, with deep, whitewashed walls, using an ancestral sustainable technique that allowed the houses to be cool in summer and warm in winter. In these houses the windows, for the same reason, were often suppressed. Today, very few houses remain that retain the true soul that makes these houses unique. The renovation of this house sought to honour this collective wisdom that was passed down in family nuclei and the intrinsic beauty of the years of history it carries. The backyard has kept it's romantic feeling and is totaly organic, filled with medicinal plants and fruit trees.

Includes internet Damage deposit: 400€ for rentals of up to 1 month; 1 month's rent for rentals up to 4 months, 1,5 rent for rentals up to 6 months, refunded after cleanliness and damage assessment. No smoking inside but can smoke at the garden (using a ashtray to collect all the remains). Be mindful for all the available things at the house so others can enjoy them also! No pets allowed.

Your communication was great, and gave us so much information and great tips for what to do, and where to go. The house was clean, cosy, and could not ask for more. The pictures don't tell you how big it is, and how much character this place has. The neighbours were all super friendly and helpful. The dogs loved the beautiful garden too. We had a great experience and would recommend staying in Vila de frades to everyone.
