Eco Farm Lodge

Cozy wooden house in nature on a goat farm with swimming pool! Remote location, ideal for adventurers.

The house has been renovated with mostly natural and recycled materials. The wood of the old roof has been reused to create warm and cozy interior design with extra sleeping spaces on two separate mezzanines. The wooden structure of the house has been filled in with clay and straw which gives a warm and natural feeling and excellent insulation. The house can sleep up to 5 people. There is a double bed on the ground floor, in the open living area and there are two separate mezzanines under the roof, one with two single mattresses and one with a medium sized mattress. There is an open kitchen area inside the house with all basic necessary kitchenware, a fridge and a 5 hob gas oven. A large dining table centrally positioned in the house. The house is heated with a cast iron wood-burner which nicely heats the place in winter. There is a private bathroom with shower, sink and water based toilet, about 50m away from the house. The water of the shower can be switched between a gas or wood boiler. In winter, heating the water with the wood boiler (bailarina) nicely heats up the bathroom at the same time. There are also two dry compost toilets on the land which we promote to use to save water. The house is located on a farm where we as hosts also live and work and there are two other accommodations on the farm where other guests and our volunteers will be living. Although it is very peacefully located, from time to time it could get a little lively around the house as it is quite centrally positioned on the farm. As we have cats, dogs, goats, ducks and chicken on the farm we are not very keen on having other pets or animals staying here as it often disturbs the peace and harmony between them, only very well behaved and trained dogs can be considered. Our cats are very territorial and might fight with other cats on the land. The rent includes the use of the shared swimming pool. There is a laundry machine available on demand. There is no internet provided in the house but the mobile reception on the land is very good. You will need to provide your own hotspot. Or you can use our mobile router and have to buy a Vodafone top up card for data.

The land is privately located between 4 little traditional villages where you can enjoy the daily Portuguese life. Each village has a local bar, a tiny grocery shop and a historical center to have a peaceful walk. Be aware that the access is along a 1km dirt track that separates us from the outside world. The access is quite good, also with a normal car, although a little bit bumpy here and there... The tracks can get quite muddy in rainy winter periods so a little bit of a adventurous mindset and some driving skills are required to stay here during winter. Having your own transport is required as depending on public transport is not an option here! We are located at about 15min drive from Oliveira do Hospital and Seia

There are a lot of outdoor activities in the region and many interesting cultural and historical places to visit. You can go kayaking, horse riding, climbing, swimming, hiking and many more... We can give information about where to go and what to see. The cities 'Seia' and 'Oliveira do Hospital' are located about 15 minutes driving from our land, where you can find supermarkets, tourist center, medical center and many other facilities... In 1 hour drive you are at the top of the Serra da Estrela mountain where you have the most amazing views! On the way up you can enjoy a refreshing pause at the lakes, rivers and waterfalls! Within 20min drive you are at the Alva river beaches of Sandomil or Penalva de Alva.

Our quinta is the perfect place for people who are looking for a complete mental relaxation, being surrounded by nature, far away from civilization and for those who like to observe some of the activities on our farm... We grow our own fruits and vegetables and we have goats and chickens who give us daily milk and eggs. We love to share our experiences and are happy to show you around!

LONG TERM rentals (for a minimum stay of 3 months, costs not included): - First month: €430 - After the first month: €375 per month - Bed linen and towels provided - Excluding internet: internet is not included but the mobile reception on the land is very good. (there is a mobile Vodafone router available if needed) - Excluding gas and electricity fee: The costs will be depending on your consume and the amount of people staying. - The house is heated with a wood burner. Firewood is available on the land for 35€/m3. ONE MONTH rental: €500 All costs and facilities included (internet not provided) The use of the washing machine is included in the electricity fee and will depend on how many people are staying in the house. The use of the shared swimming pool is included in the rent but the pool is not open during the winter period. IMPORTANT! The house does not have a individual address. Therefore we can NOT provide a rental contract that can be used for any residency related purpose. The house is considered as a bungalow and is only available for temporary stays (3 - max 6 months)
