Sitio do Lago

The 100 year old estate of Sitio do Lago is situated in unspoilt authentic countryside about a half hour drive North of Faro Airport between Querença and Salir. Deep within unspoilt countryside, surrounded by wild orchids, mature fig, olive, carob and oak trees, fragrant herbs and the hypnotic soundtrack of owls calling and crickets chirring, you will find an authentic Portuguese retreat with its own 1,500m² private lake, the perfect place to get away from it all.

The accommodation There are two separate apartments available for rental, each measures 40m² with a partly covered porch of 15m² equipped with outdoor furniture for you to enjoy the views out over the valley. They are set up for two to four people and consist of an open plan living room with a double sofa-bed, a double bedroom with a lake view, a bathroom and a well equipped kitchenette. The apartments are light and airy with aircon/heating installed and excellent insulation for summer and winter living. There is Wifi in each apartment. There are high chairs and cots available, please request at the time of booking. The apartments are self catering but some or all meals can be also catered for on request using locally sourced, freshly cooked ingredients, and all special dietary needs are taken into account. The Quinta There is a large lake on the property that is fed by spring water which makes it ideal for swimming and canoeing. It has a surface area of about 1000m², is three meters deep, and has visibility down to the bottom. There is a also a swimming pool of 8 x 4 meters and a large poolside terrace with BBQ where you can sunbathe and relax. The quinta covers 2 hectares so there are plenty of areas to explore and enjoy the peace and quiet. There are kayaks and bicycles available for guests to use, and also a table tennis table.

The immediate surroundings are part of a nature reserve “Fonte da Benemola”with natural springs and mountain caves. The whole area near Querença is on top of a large aquifer and there are many springs and also a museum in Querença dedicated to water. In the area you can walk for hours on the many well marked trails without meeting another person. We are a five minutes walk to the cross country trail of the Via Algarviana, and also 10 minutes drive to Rocha de Pena, well known for rockclimbing. The area is also famed for quad biking and cycling tracks.

The nearby town of Loule, 15 minutes drive away, offers an historic central area and castle and moorish remains, restaurants and a variety of amenities, as well as a wonderful Saturday farmers’ market, and also plays host to many cultural events such as the world music MED Festival, the well known carnival and the pretty Barrocal villages of Querenca and Salir are just 5km away with many local festas throughout the year.

Minimum stay is 3 nights. All prices include bedlinen and towels, gas, water and electric, internet and cleaning. We are open for bookings between April & October. Our price per 2 bedroom apartment is €110 per night (€770 per week) for 2 to 4 guests. The ensuite double bedroom for an additional 2 guests is charged at an extra €70 per night.
