Portuguese Farmhouse

Our permaculture farm is set in forest land a few kilometres into the Serra da Estrela national park. With beautiful surroundings, a stunning garden and wonderful sunset views down the Alva valley. Our natural swimming pool is a magical place to unwind and cool off in the Portuguese summer. The house comes with a modern fully equipped kitchen and bathrooms, a downstairs toilet and unlimited WI-FI.

The house sleeps up to eight people, with three double beds and one twin room. All with views of the mountains and nature. We can add an extra bed into the main room if you prefer two twins and two double rooms. The kitchen has electric oven, gas hob, fridge-freezer, dish washer and all the things you would expect to find in a well appointed kitchen. The stylish bathrooms have showers, & modern fittings. All the house water is from our spring which comes direct from within our mountain water mine. The farm has a natural biological swimming pool without chlorine. A large decked area around the pool, a place of serenity and relaxation and is surrounded by native forest which is a haven for wildlife.

Our farm is surrounded by small 'Quintas' (allotments) still worked in tradional ways, mountain streams and native woodland - this area is famous for its ancient Sweet Chestnut trees. Our land has many terraces decending the valley with incredible old granite block walls which were once all cultivated with olives, vines and fruit trees; now being reclaimed by nature and native woodland. We are still cultivating parts of the farm with our permerculture principles, including a large no-dig garden and emerging forest gardens.

The house is ideally situated to explore by car, bike or by walking the magic of the national park. The Serra da Estrela is Portugal's highest mountain range, has breathtaking scenery, many river beaches with crystal clear water, including Lapa Dos Dinheiros and Loriga both just minutes away. We are 10 minutes from Seia and São Romão, which have all amenities you will need, with supermarkets, bars, cafes, famous mountain cheese shops, cinema and a hospital.

With a mixture of comfort and deep nature connection the house makes for a truly blissful experience to be had. Its unique setting, history and now new stewardship promoting ecological and regenerative principles, will give you a truly magical holiday retreat.

We would like people to observe quiet time from 7am-11am and from 11pm each night. The garden has its unique features, many put in place one hundred years ago. You will need to sign a form on arrival to take responsibility for your own actions. Only ecological products can be used in the house. No glass or ceramics can be taken to the poolside. We have plastic glasses to use.
