Quinta do Ferro

Welcome to our quinta! For guests wishing to stay in the total serenity of our historic quinta, we offer the "Casa do Lagar," a modern cottage on the grounds of the manor house. It is a completely updated and self-contained house, charmingly designed and ready for self-catered stays.

Many features of our large quinta will be available to you, including hectares of surrounding paths through the pine forests, a private lake and a picnic area by our small dam. However the pool is only available in July and August, and access is not guaranteed. The caretaker and employees living on the grounds are available for assistance (though speak only Portuguese). We recommend that guests bring their own data chip (and wireless "hotspot") for the most reliable internet access. We can make recommendations. We are very sorry to not be able to accept dogs (visiting dogs are simply not tolerated by our guard dogs, who are otherwise very friendly to humans including children).

We are 15km from Trancoso which is the closest significant town, aside from smaller villages in the vicinity.

Quinta do Ferro is an ancient property with documented roots extending to the 16th century. It has been in the same family for 370 years. Today it is a fairly typical Portuguese farm of the Beiras region, whose heyday is long past, now struggling against the forces of globalized agriculture.

Guests are welcome for week-long stays or longer. (We also have an option for winter stays at an equally charming house with centralized heating, directly adjacent, making it perfectly cozy in the winter months.) The pool is not always available for use but depends on the time of year and personnel available to maintain it.
