Fully furnished with a kitchenette, a large comfortable double bed, and a relaxed living area with desk and dining space. Lovely views in every direction. The loft sits on an organic farm homestead, recently refurbished to an A energy rating, in a quiet and very secure setting. Just outside, a large water tank doubles as a bathing pool on warm days. Lodgers are warmly welcome to join in the garden and harvest fruit and vegetables to eat.
We're an international couple in our sixties, both fluent in Portuguese and deeply familiar with the region. Alongside the farm we run an organic farm and training school, and you're welcome to take part in the farming life and lend a hand in exchange for produce from the garden. We're involved nationally in the conservation and restoration of nature, and we practise yoga and meditation — you're invited to join us whenever you wish. We sell at the local farmers' market and have strong ties to the community here. The farm is ideal for anyone wanting to transition to country life and learn how to manage a market garden.
Above all, this is a place of healing. The garden invites you to reconnect with nature and set down the worries of the world. Single people in particular love it here: company when they want it, independence and quiet when they'd rather be alone. We sometimes host communal lunches — everyone is welcome, with a small contribution from loft guests to cover costs.
Plenty of parking. Pets and children considered case by case. Smoking outdoors only.

The countryside here is made for the outdoors: a network of walking and mountain-biking trails winds through the surrounding hills, and there are two lakes within easy reach. The nearer one is just 3 km away — close enough to stroll to — while the larger, about 6 km off, stretches some 70 km and is well known for water-skiing and wakeboarding.
We're centrally placed: 5 km from the heart of Tomar and only 3 km from the local supermarket. Tomar itself is well connected, with train services to both Lisbon and Coimbra, and the Atlantic beaches of Nazaré are around 50 minutes away by car. It's a rare combination — peaceful, green and rural, yet never far from everything you need.
Location
CountrysideVillageHere's a "what's around the area" section built from your skeleton, with the details filled in and tidied:
Tomar is celebrated as one of Portugal's most authentic and unspoiled towns — a place that still reflects the traditional Portuguese way of life. Its crowning glory is the Convento de Cristo and Templar castle, a UNESCO World Heritage site that served as the final headquarters of the Order of the Templars.
The surrounding countryside is just as rewarding. The region is known for its river beaches and the 70 km Castelo de Bode lake (also called the Zêzere Lake), ideal for swimming, kayaking and watersports. Inland, you'll find dramatic limestone grottoes and caves to explore, and a landscape woven with hiking trails — the Caminho de Santiago itself passes through the town, and many walking routes run through or close by.
This is also a region of fine gastronomy and wine, where local markets and family restaurants serve the produce of the land. And it's horse country: the area is famous for the Lusitano breed, celebrated each November at the renowned Feira Nacional do Cavalo (National Horse Fair) in nearby Golegã — held over ten days around St. Martin's Day on 11 November, it's the largest horse fair in Portugal, filling the town with horses, riders, food stalls and roasting chestnuts.

In 2022 we set out to experiment with syntropic farming — a way of growing that works with nature rather than against it — and we've treated the land as a living laboratory ever since: somewhere to learn, to make mistakes, and to discover how nature truly works. Staying here means becoming part of that quiet, hopeful experiment.
We welcome volunteers who come to learn alongside us, and we love sharing not just the farming but the culture around it — the food, the rhythms, the everyday life of rural Portugal. Locally, we're active among a community of organic farmers working to raise awareness of ecology and the best ways to care for the land. We recycle, and we try to live consciously in what we consume and how we live, day to day.
So this isn't simply a place to stay. It's a chance to slow down, reconnect with the earth, and live for a while among people who are genuinely trying to do things differently. For anyone drawn to a more conscious, grounded way of life, it's a rare and quietly inspiring place to call home.
